Claire Broido Johnson is a senior operations executive with a proven 25-year track record in successfully launching, managing, and scaling businesses and products that drive significant changes in critical industries, including clean energy. Claire is best known for her groundbreaking work at both SunEdison and the US Department Energy (DOE). In 2003, she co-founded SunEdison, which scaled the solar energy services market and became the world’s largest solar energy services provider at the time with a $10 billion market cap and 7200 employees by 2015. At SunEdison, she sold the first Power Purchase Agreements to Staples and Whole Foods and raised the company’s first $60 MM in project financing. In 2009, she joined the Department of Energy, where she oversaw the deployment of $11 billion in Recovery Act funds to scale renewable energy and energy efficiency programs throughout the United States.

She Co-Founded SunRock Distributed Generation in 2022 and remains an Advisor.

She most recently served as Chief Operating Offficer of Fermata Energy, a vehicles-to-grid start-up, and the Managing Director of the University System of Maryland Momentum Fund, where she invested in 32 start-ups in less than 3 years. She remains committed to work with and support early stage start-up companies - particularly in the climate tech space.

Claire loves all things Baltimore and moved to Baltimore to join Constellation in 2002 after Harvard Business School. She started SunEdison in Baltimore. She has been very active in the local community, from investing in companies via Blu Ventures, to being involved in the Advisory Board at Upsurge Baltimore, writing grants to receive funding for Federal Hill Park and fundraising for Rash Field.  She has been a proud board member of Living Classrooms since 2012. She worked as a consultant to Baltimore City Public Schools to finance building upgrades with energy services agreements, and worked at Thread.org on their operations, finance, and human resources.
